Imagine that this scene floats by in the air ...
As captain of this "airship", the Gelada monkey can be recognized by his cap with feather. The Gelada monkey is only found in the Ethiopian Highlands and is this time on the road with its crew in Eastern regions.
The intention is that they map unknown land. They have a camera with them that is on the side of their boat. The camera is of an unprecedented high technological level ...

A walk with the crane
31 x 25 cm | Oil on panel | Available through Art Gallery Honingen
This cat in typical steampunk clothing sets out for a walk with her pet. In this case the pet is a crane.
I deliberately kept the background neutral and calm so that all the details of the characters, clothing and details get all the attention even better.
The typical blurry background is called 'bokeh'.

This red-haired Maine Coon male is wearing a Cirque du Soleil mask.
This mask was made by Judith Rauchfuss for Cirque du Soleil and I bought it during one of their shows. This painting uses a limited color
palette to emphasize the power of this superhero.
Ravel and Spacechimp
25 x 25 cm | Oil on panel | Available through Art Gallery De Beeldenstorm
Ravel the French bulldog presented in this painting is in my studio every day while I paint.
In this painting it was particularly nice to provide him with a space suit as if he were a cosmonaut together with his partner 'Spacechimp'.
The inspiration for this painting came after watching the James Bond movie "Moonraker."

The centerpiece of this painting is a vase in glass paste. Together with the other objects you can see this painting as a 'lively still life'.
By the way, I started as a still life painter when I was 19 years old in the footsteps of my father.
In this work, the light is indeed very important. You see the floodlight invade the painting on the left and illuminate all objects and figures.
The abundance of different materials, such as in this 'still life', is always a challenge and a test of ability. This way you can show the solid wooden surface but also the soft fur of the different animals.

Smaller sizes are fun to paint but this one is the biggest I've ever made.
It has become 'King's Castle' with dimensions of 100 x 150 cm.
I have not counted the hours in this painting in terms of preparation and elaboration, but after a long drive I am happy to show you the result.
From flying objects and animals to Nestor the lion, the king of the Antwerp Zoo, you can find it here.
This painting was constructed in the atmosphere of a warm summer evening with the sun low.
The title 'King's Castle refers to the lion as' King of the animals' but also to the kingfisher. In English this is 'Kingfisher'.
The castle that I used as background is the Castle 'Hof ter Saksen' where I often hung around as a little boy.
